Dear Bastille Day Trail Runner,
We are sad to announce that, due to the extremely unfavorable weather forecast, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event.
Our primary concern is the safety of our participants and staff. The forecast of heavy rain and strong winds leading up to Race day will make the (usually fun) river crossings hazardous, posing a significant risk to runners’ safety.
We are concerned about:
Rising River Levels – Today, the rivers are overflowing, and with continuous rain heading our way, there is little opportunity for the water levels to drop. Heavy snowfall is an additional factor that will contribute to elevated river levels. All the trail race routes have multiple river crossings.
Slippery Trails – The trails are usually a bit wet in July, but this week they are becoming extra slippery and treacherous, increasing the risk of falls and injuries. The Bastille concept is to be brave and have outdoor fun, not to compromise on safety. The predicted very low temperatures on Saturday create a further complication.
Reduced Visibility and Navigation Challenges – There is greatly reduced visibility and increased navigation challenges due to heavy rain, strong winds, and snow (for the first time in this event’s 12-year history). The 50km route has an entire section covered by snow.
Emergency Services Accessibility – Accessibility and visibility for Emergency Services are already compromised.
Race Village – setting up the Race Village in Gale force winds is simply not safe.
We cannot compromise on safety, and have thus decided to reschedule the event for a later date when the weather conditions will be more favorable. The new date for the Bastille Day Trail Running Event is the 7th of September 2024.
Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you are unable to participate on the rescheduled date, you can transfer it to next year’s event in 2025, without any extra fees charged.
There will be NO registration this week. We will communicate the new dates and time by end of August.
